N E W S
I can't believe its a year since our last update. Its been quieter this end, just a few festivals and a couple of fun little shows, including our return to Salmunster in Germany, and fascinating afternoon performance at Stanley Kubrick's estate Childwickbury.
Our biggest piece of upcoming news is that we'll be playing STATELESS in its entirety at our final show of the year at Cargo in London on Tuesday 18th October and you can get tickets directly from us here >>> http://www.lenelovich.net/cargo2016
We are also happy to confirm that Lene will be guesting for a couple of tunes with NINA HAGEN at Nina's London show in September, marking the first time the two have performed together in many years.
We have upcoming shows in October, including the aforementioned Stateless show. We'll be back in Manchester and Bristol, as well as our first trip to Middlesbrough. And we've got two shows in the Netherlands, our first there.
Alas, due to other commitments these are likely to be the last Lene Lovich Band shows for a while.
In other news, our license from Oval Music has expired, meaning that Stateless and Flex will no longer be available from us. The last remaining copies of the Flex 002 CD box set need to be sold, so you can currently grab yourself a bargain here >>> http://www.lenelovich.net/flexmusic/
Thanks to all of you who came to the shows this year. It was our most fun tour yet, and we had some extraordinary adventures and made lots of new friends. We also played with some amazing bands, in particular we'd like to doff our hats to Skeletal Family, Vix and Her Mischiefs, and David Devant And His Spirit Wife, We also had our very own Kirsten Morrison on proud display most evenings, and her new solo album Prosperine's Gold is about to be released on the Micro Spiral label, so do go and grab yourselves a copy if you enjoy her reverential talent as much as we do.
We have one bit of bad news, which is that reluctantly we are once again postponing our US tour dates, this time owing entirely to financial reasons. We actually got as far as confirming shows, and we have some amazing people working in America on our behalf to bring us over, so we feel certain it will happen, hopefully very soon. But unfortunately we found ourselves financially disadvantaged this year, owing to a whole tour last year that we found out last minute that we weren't getting paid for. As the show must almost always go on, go on it did, and we did enjoy it, because we love what we do and we love being together and playing together and visiting new places, etc. But business, alas, is business, and much as we dislike that cliché we still have to take care of business, or it will take care of us. That said, if anyone has a spare $20,000 or a private jet we can borrow, feel free to drop us a line.
Josie Jones RIP
We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn that the splendiferous Josie Jones of The Mighty Wah! and Big Hard Excellent Fish fame/notoriety passed away yesterday.
Jude has written a little tribute which you can read here
Full speed ahead to Germany next month, see the tour page to grab your tickets!
Just a month to go until we begin our 2015 tour dates! We're kicking off next month with our first full UK tour for two years. In April we'll be back in Germany for our biggest tour there yet. Then more UK shows, culminating in our grandest show yet at the esteemed and very large Islington Assembly Hall on 6th June (D-Day). We also have festivals lined up in Germany, Italy, Portugal and Brazil. And to cap it all of, we are planning a tour of the USA in October, beginning in Lene's hometown of Detroit.
Ticket links for all shows can be found on the "tour" page.
This may seem all very sentimental and fun, but there's more afoot, starting right now with the first EVER digital releases of NO MAN'S LAND and MARCH, which you can now download in their remastered glory from our brand new Bandcamp page. Just follow the "music" link above.
There's something else...
Well, if you missed our UK tour early bird ticket offer, we have a new little offer in the run up to Xmas... Buy 3 tickets, get a 4th one free... This applies to Brighton, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, and London, but ONLY on tickets purchased through this website. You also don't pay any booking fees when buying directly from us via Paypal. Sadly this option is not available for all shows, and in the case of London only as long as our ticket allocation lasts, so don't leave it too long.
Apparently we were trending on Twitter earlier this week, though on general principle trends should be neither set nor followed...
Tickets have gone on sale for many of the shows on the next European tour. We have early bird special offers on 3 of the UK dates, Brighton, Newcastle and Edinburgh: buy two tickets before Halloween and get a third absolutely free...
More dates are coming, more shows are to be added. Keep your eyes on the Tour page!
Well if there is one thing we can say for certain for the last 12 months, it has most definitely been a year...
For us, the most important development was Val joining the band. We feel completely revitalised by the energy and humour she has brought to us, and anyone who came to see us during our shows this year will know already what this means. So hurrah for Val!
If you came to the shows you'll also have had the pleasure of our very own Kirsten Morrison doing her solo thing. It was a complete joy night after night to hear audiences fall under her spell. Other high points for us were our first shows in Italy and France. And we cannot thank our fans in Germany enough for once again welcoming us and reminding us what it's all about.
Weird and wonderful moments included a beautiful private little gig in the German countryside, and being made to feel wonderfully at home at the Sonic Rock Solstice Festival, a space rock extravaganza in the middle of Wales. And then there was London... following on from last year's big gigs at Cargo and the Camden Underworld, we went small and returned to the scene of our live debut, the phantasmagorical 12 Bar Club, before discovering the intimate beauty of the Hill Station, south east London's best kept secret, an amazing reclaimed space next to St. Catherine's Church at the top of Telegraph Hill, and conveniently just around the corner from our new studio...
So, what's next?
Well, first up we have recently licensed Stateless, Flex, No Man's Land and the Others to a Japanese label called Birdsong. Yes, we are now labelmates with The Residents, Chris and Cosey, A Certain Ratio, Danielle Dax, and the Golden Palaminos... Very good company if you ask us. Buy three, get the fourth free, as we understand. The release date is 26th September.
Secondly, after much faffing around with the alleged music industry, we've decided to bypass the usual merch deals and give one of these new-fangled online on-demand retailers a try. So we've relaunched the shop, now hosted by Dizzyjam, with lots of new merch, and some old merch in new colours. We'll see how it goes. It's a tad more expensive but way more efficient, and with far more choice than we could previously offer you.
Thirdly, we have more shows coming up, beginning with a return to Italy in December. We are also provisionally planning our biggest tour to date for early next year, which is slated to include (thus far) the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Holland and Germany. (Apologies for anyone who had a ticket to the two cancelled shows in Holland, unfortunately these cancellations were unavoidable.)
Lastly, yes, we are working on something.
We'll talk again soon. And we'll talk about America.
For now, we've made a little film of our recent adventures, which you can see below...
